Annual Conference Information:
Cancellation of in-person LIWC 2021
Dear LIWC members,
The Board of Representatives and the LIWC 2021 Local Arrangements Committee met online on Thursday, January 25, to discuss the event's planning. Our discussion revolved around travel restrictions and other uncertainties. It quickly became evident that it would be challenging to hold a safe, well-attended meeting this summer. We discussed the value of LIWC and debated on holding an online event instead. In the end, the board voted unanimously to cancel the in-person meeting of the 2021 LIWC that was to be held in Kerrville, TX, on June 13-16. We also felt that what makes LIWC unique is the social interaction we get from meeting in person. Much of that would be lost if we held scientific sessions online. Most members who share their research results at scientific conferences have had abundant opportunities to do so: online venues have multiplied, and travel costs vanished, allowing more students to present their work than ever before. However, one portion of the membership we have not had an opportunity to hear from is our industry representatives. And, let's be honest, we miss each other, don't we?
Until we meet in Dallas, Texas, in 2022, the LIWC Board of Representatives is inviting you to join the "LIWC Online Unexpected Social Event" (LOUSE)! Mark your calendars: the LOUSE will take place on Zoom during the scheduled banquet time on Tuesday, June 15. We will kick-start the evening with our Industry Session with updates from our industry members, and we will continue with some chatting and catching up!
Details on the start time and Zoom link to come.
